SASWAD – AN ANCIENT VILLAGE TOWN OF PUNE DISTRICT

Saswad is an ancient town in pune district distance of 37 km from Pune. Saswad is headquarters of Purandar taluka. The great Maratha Sardar Abasaheb Purandare resided here. Sangameshwar temple is located in Saswad in Pune District, Maharashtra. It is built alongside the confluence of Karha and Chamli rivers. This ancient temple is dedicated to
Lord Shiva. It is believed to have been built sometime around the 7th-10th century during the Yadava reign. On the occasion of Tripuri Pornima this temple lights thousands of divas and celebrates the Pornima in the evening.

Changa Bateswar temple is another ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple’s Shivlinga was said to have been originally installed by Sage Changadeva (12th/13th cent AD). Its Jeernoddhar (renovation) was carried out by Sardar Ambuji Purandare in 1700 AD. Other nearby attractions are Saswad Kalbhairav Temple, Ganapati Temple, Purandar wada, Rani Mastani wada (2nd wife of Peswe Bajirao, Rani Mastani was resided here), Purandar Fort, Narayanpur Datta Temple, Ketkavale Prati Balaji Temple and Maskoba temple of Kodit village.
Best to visit in all seasons of the year.
